The following was taken from "The History of Newport, R.I." by Richard M. Bayles, published
1888 pp 952 Asa Davol, farmer. His father William Davol, and his grandfather, Jonathon Davol,
each in turn lived in the same building. His father combined shoemaking with farming, and had
thirteen children.
Jonathan Davol and Hanah Odlin, Davol had eleven children:
1. Jonathan some of whose descendant are traced through the 19th century; 2. Joseph who is the
ancestor of all the Ohio Devols, and whose line continues to the present time; 3. Benjamin; 4.
JEREMIAH (from whom we are descendant); 5. Mary; 6. William; ancestor of present day Davols
of New England; 7. Ana; 8. Hannah; 9. Abigail; 10. Sarah; 11. Elizabeth.
John Odlin father of Hamah Adley Davol was a cutler and armorer and one of the more wealthy
citizens of Boston. John Perry Taylor A.M. of Exeter, N.A. has written a book "The Odlin Family"
part of which is reprinted the New England Historical and Genealogical Register vol. 4 pp 265
(1887). Information concerning the second marriage of Jonathan Davol was received from E.
Russel Davol, Tannton, Mass. Dec. 1931 and from "The Owl" magazine of the Wing Family.
Many descendants of Jonathan Davol through his sons, Jonathan, Joseph, and Jeremiah, were in
Dutchess county, N.Y. before, during, and after the Revolution, and some were there, at Pine
Plains in 1897 (see "History of Little Nine Partners" published 1897.) The spelling of the name of
those who moved to New York was changed to Deuel.
