VII Joseph Putney Deuel, b. Saratoga Co. N.Y. 16 May 1800, d. Sheridan, Iowa, 22 March
1873; m. Marcellus, Onondaga Co. N.Y. 12 Feb 1821, Melinda Manley (first cousin to Buffalo Bill
Cody, see detailed Cody genealogy for Deuel lineage), b. Marcellus, N.Y. 12 Oct. 1803, d.
Wellsville, Ohio 1888, dau. of Luther and Hannah (Benton) Manley.
Joseph P. Deuel resided in Marcellus and Almond, N.Y. Conneaut, Ohio Elk Creek, Penn.,
Wellsville, Ohio, Ionia Co. Mich. Carthage, Ill. and Sheridan Iowa. He was a blacksmith, farmer,
roadmaster, school teacher, Justice of the Peace, and town clerk.
The mention of Joseph Putney Deuel living at Sheridan, Iowa could be helping in tracing the Deuels
in Nebraska or other possible descendants. I learned there were four Sheridans in Iowa at one time
or another. None of them exist at present. The exact one could be determined by going to the
State of Iowa Historical Building and reviewing old census records taken during the approximate
time Joseph Putney and Melinda Manley died there. 1850 to 22 Mar. 1873 when Joseph died
there. But buried in Wellsville, Ohio at the Cody Family Cemetery.

The letters from Therald Cody to Bill Mahon is evidently in error as to Joseph Putney Deuel's father
coming from France with Lafayette.
