In the pursuit of our family line ascending back from our great great grandfather Henry Deuel, we have used various family stories to help piece the puzzle together. One of the more persistent stories told to our family by our grandfather John James Deuel is that he had an uncle or great-uncle who helped to set up towns, had something to do with railroads and had a county named for him.
What might at first glance seem to be a fanciful stretch of bedtime storytelling definitely warrants closer inspection in light of two fairly prominent Deuel pioneers who have counties named out West for their efforts, namely Harry Porter Deuel and James S. Deuel.
This page will be a dedicated to a discussion of Harry Porter Deuel.
