Harry Porter Deuel Proposed Line:
Harry Porter8, Charles7, Philip6, Joseph5-3
You gave me information quite a while back on a partial line for Harry Porter Deuel of
Nebraska. His father was Charles, b. NY in 1807, he had a sister born in Berne, Albany
County, I think the year was around 1810. Charles is in Clarkson, Monroe County (i.e. just
west of Rochester) by 1837 when Harry Porter Deuel was born. Harry's grandfather was a
Philip Deuel b. in Dartmouth in 1781 (there's no Dartmouth VR recording of such a birth, or
for a Charles). (The point to remember here is that most NY Deuels came to NY before
1781, his being born in either RI or MA from anytime 1760 forward makes him unusual).
Charles had a brother named Joseph.
Now let's compare him to Joseph6 Deuel, the father of Nelson and Rodolphus Holland
Duell. Joseph6 was another latecomer, born in Newport RI, I think in 1783 or thereabouts,
his father Joseph5 moved back and forth bewteen Dartmouth and Newport. Joseph6 has a
daughter born in Berne, Albany County in 1805. Joseph6 had a son named Charles.
Joseph5 Deuel had a brother named Philip (i.e. the ancestor of the Alburgh Deuels), so he
would have a reason to name a son Philip, he names another son Benjamin6 after another
brother as we shall see (I think offhand that the Harland, Niagara Deuels descend from
Benjamin5), and Joseph5 dies in 1823 in Conesus, Livingston County, which is the county
bordering Monroe to the south.
So we have one known line: Rodolphus Holland7 [also, Nelson7], Joseph6-3.
There is also a possible line that would have a lot going for it that looks like this: Harry
Porter8, Charles7, Philip6, Joseph5-3. That would make Harry Porter Deuel a nephew of
Holland Rodolphus Duell, if those two can be tied together it would make a nice little line for
another try at my triangle offense (it works for Phil Jackson with the Lakers and Bulls,
maybe it will work in genealogy too, we need a genealogical Kobe or Shaq to help us out).
